Exhibit at River House Arts hails new beginning for British artist.River House Arts in Perrysburg is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Sandra Jane Heard. Heard will present The Journey, a collection of mixed media works exploring the human experience of growth and identity as we navigate the forces of society and life that are often outside of our control.Guided by a strong design aesthetic and inspired by patterns of replication and repetition found in nature, the artist transforms natural materials and man-made objects into multi-dimensional pieces. Her assemblage techniques and keen use of space and light bring an expressive, minimalistic form to the works, despite their detailed construction. Heard is - by definition - a member of the Young British Artist movement, the generation of artists born in the UK between 1960 and 1970 and formally educated in the arts during the 1980s, a time when vividly experimental and highly conceptualized art was becoming the norm. And like her fellow YBAs, Grayson Perry (2003 Turner Prize) and Jake Chapman (2003 Turner Prize Nominee), Heard completed the Arts Foundation course at Braintree College before pursuing several more years of studio training, apprenticeships, and formal degrees. Heard's own credentials also include 2 yrs in the Science of Textiles at Huddersfield University in Yorkshire, and a BFA with High Distinction from the California College of Arts. After her CCA degree in 1994, the artist enjoyed a two year run of solid sales, critical praise, and nearly a dozen shows. But with the birth of her first son, she began a self-imposed hiatus that would last until 2007 when her husband accepted an executive position with First Solar and the family moved to Perrysburg. Sparked by the support of a growing arts community here, Heard has since participated in several shows including three annual Fiber Arts shows at the 577 Foundation (where she awarded the Peoples Choice Award) and the highly competitive 2010 Ohio + 5 at the Dairy Barn in Athens Ohio. The Journey at River House Arts is Sandra Jane Heards first solo show in nearly 15 years. River House Arts was founded in late 2009 to offer a local showcase for strong contemporary works. The gallery is privileged add Ms Heard to its growing roster of outstanding artists. Gallery Hours are 10-6 p.m. Tuesday thru Thursday and 12-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 115 West Front Street, Perrysburg, OH 43551
